Taster Space - Redefining Healthy Eating

The Project

Taster Space

Desert Spoon Food Hub is redefining the way kids think about fruits and vegetables with their Taster Space initiative. Targeted at fourth and fifth graders, Taster Space is a program that turns healthy eating into an exciting exploration. Each box is an assortment of vibrant fruits and vegetables, bundled with engaging activities and fun,
easy-to-make recipes.

Leading our young culinary explorers is the ever-enthusiastic Astro Billie, the charismatic face and voice of the initiative's explainer video series. After capturing the imagination of our young audience with their introductory video, we were excited to elevate Astro Billie to new adventures through a revamped series of videos covering
their unique boxes.

The Approach

Taster Space

Imagine a kitchen not just in a home, but in a space ship, orbiting among stars and planets. This is where we placed Astro Billie for the next chapter of the Taster Space journey. In this cosmic kitchen, each of the twelve videos unfolds like a mini episode of an interstellar cooking show. Astro Billie, dressed in a specially designed space chef outfit, greets young viewers with the latest Taster Space box, ready to explore its contents filled with fruits, vegetables,
and exciting activities.

But Astro Billie isn't alone. Enter Taste Bud, a curious puppet alien with an appetite for learning and a knack for playful banter. From unpacking the box to preparing the delicious recipe, their dialogues reveal the nutritional benefits of each food item, along with fun facts and healthy tips. Whether it's discussing the power of leafy greens or the secrets of sweet fruits, Taste Bud’s questions mirror the inquisitive minds of our young viewers, keeping them engaged and eager for more.

Ultimately, our goal was to make each video into an adventure, not just a lesson, captivating our audience and drawing them deeper into the world of healthy eating.

The Results

In the end, CultureSpan provided Taster Space with a total of twelve videos that will be available online to help with healthy food education endeavors among youth throughout the Borderland area. The program, funded through the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, periodically provides new cohorts where parents can register their children for the healthy-eating initiative. Visit them online to learn more about the program and other healthy food related endeavors.
