Donas de Dunkin'

The Project

Here at CultureSpan, we’re always looking to bring Transcreation to a larger audience. So when we read that Dunkin' Donuts was opening a series of franchises throughout California, we thought it would be fun to celebrate their expansion with a transcreation makeover! Even though they aren't really our client, we thought, it’s time to make the donas!

The Approach

We all know that when it comes to donuts, Dunkin’ is king. However, living here on the border in El Paso, we’re exposed to some awesome traditional Mexican pastries. We took it upon ourselves to reimagine some of these goodies as new menu offerings from Dunkin' Donuts. After some fun in the kitchen we whipped up three delicious pastries and even a new and improved breakfast sandwich.

The Products

What’s a new treat without some shiny new packaging? We gave Dunkin’s existing boxes and bags a bit of a twist, and even included a fun promotional game on the packaging to help launch our new goodies.

The game is called lotería and it’s a Mexican game of chance very similar to bingo. Each large donut box comes with a removable tabla game board. The large box and Dunkin’ brown bag also come with sticker game pieces to be used on the tabla. In order to win, a player must match game pieces to their corresponding image on the tabla – all in a row and in any direction. Prizes could include everything from free food all the way up to a trip to Mexico! It’s fun to imagine, but at least we got to eat the fruits of our labor!
